Fall Organizing
5 Tips for HS/College Dance Audition Solos
Whether you are a current student or no longer in school, when the fall season is upon us, it creates a level of excitement around starting anew: back-to-school, new beginnings, fresh start, goal setting, scheduling, projects, choreography, auditions, lesson plans…are you falling into the same pattern…pattern…pattern?
Whew! It can be overwhelming.
How can we make it less “whelming?”
I like to get organized so that “future me” will thank “today me.”
Preparing the physical space for my students, along with everything else.
Sometimes that means making charts or color-coding my tasks. Maybe it’s outlining weekly or monthly goals. It could be choreographing or taking a Dance class.
The main point is to get your schedule into manageable chunks so that you can meet deadlines.
And if things don’t go quite the way you planned, give yourself some grace.
Each day, and sometimes different points throughout the day, can be an opportunity to start again.
Celebrate your successes: what went well? What steps can I repeat to achieve a similar result?
Analyze what didn’t go as planned: was it better than the plan? What can I do differently to achieve the result I want?
Finding beauty in the patterns of nature and our day-to-day lives.
I have worked with many students to prepare for auditions and have put together a list to help jump start your audition process and help you with your recorded or in-person solo. (The document is linked to the image.)
Want more guidance? Reach out for more information about my offerings for audition prep for students. I can work with you to help you craft, perform, and record the best version of your choreography to submit for auditions.
(I also do guest teaching, concert and show choreography, along with coaching and mentoring dancers and choreographers.)
