My dance video hit 3 million views 🤯

October 2025

In this post: 1M…2M…3M views…and still going!!!

I never set out to create a “viral video,” but one of my videos has received more than 3 million views…and counting.

How did this happen?!?!

Over the summer I had a beautiful mountain view from a friend’s house. One afternoon, I noticed the clouds moving to obscure the mountains and I wanted to capture it on timelapse. As I set up my phone to record, I wondered,

“how slowly would I need to move for the timelapse dance to look smooth?”

So, I started dancing in slow motion for 10 minutes or so.

Volcanic mountain range with clouds in the background and trees and plants on a hill in front of that.

The clouds move in and out to obscure and reveal the mountains.

On another day, I had recorded the sounds of the chickens and other animals in the early morning.

I plopped that audio on top of my timelapse video and posted on Instagram as I usually do without giving it a second thought.

It got 1 million views in 4 days!

Along with that, I also received DMs, comments, likes, reposts to other accounts, and posts to stories. It was all happening so quickly and I was getting so many notifications that I turned off comments, unless I follow you or you follow me.

Now, almost 3 months later, that same video has over 3 million views and counting. In fact, that video gets more views daily than the majority of any of my other videos. Why? I have absolutely no idea :-)

It still gets a ton of engagement and I recorded a companion video to explain how I made the original video because I got so many inquiries. That video is nearing 20K views.

Over 3M and nearing 20K!

Viral Video on Instagram

Did I gain followers as a result? Yes.

Did I start to get more engagement on my account? Yes.

Did I change the way I show up and post dance videos? No!

I’m not dancing for likes. I’m posting to express my authentic self through dance and hopefully inspire others to move their bodies too.

Showing up every day — every moment — to be yourself and share your joy of dance (or whatever your mode of expression may be) is imperative.

I also share my joy for dance through teaching, audition prep, and performing. Check out the offerings on my website.

The daily or weekly posting to social media hones my dedication to the craft and perhaps gives some joy to viewers...like you.

P.S. If you’re curious, here’s a link to the viral video.
